In just three days, the field for the 48th annual Memorial Tournament presented by Workday will commence at the Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio and we now know who all is teeing it up.
On Friday, the final field of 120 players was announced and like pretty much every year, it’s another banger.
Nine former Memorial Tournament champions will be back as well as seven of the world’s top 10 golfers including No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, No. 2 Jon Rahm (this year’s Masters champion and 2020 tournament winner), No. 3 Rory McIlroy (the reigning FedEx Cup winner), No. 4 Patrick Cantlay (the 2019 and 2021 tournament winner), No. 5 Xander Schauffele, No. 6 Viktor Hovland and No. 9 Matt Fitzpatrick, the reigning U.S. Open champion.
Also hitting the course will be four of the top 10 in the FedEx Cup standings: No. 5 Jason Day, No. 7 Keegan Bradley, No. 8 Wyndham Clark and No. 10 Kurt Kitayama.
In addition to Cantlay and Rahm, other past Memorial winners returning include last year’s champ Billy Horschel, Hideki Matsuyama (2014), Jason Dufner (2017), K.J. Choi (2007), Matt Kuchar (2013), David Lingmerth (2015) and William McGirt (2016).
Other notable entries include major championship winners Stewart Cink, Lucas Glover, Zach Johnson, Shane Lowry, Francesco Molinari, Colin Morikawa, Adam Scott, Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas, Danny Willett and Gary Woodland.
In all, the total field has won a combined 28 major titles.
Three-time major champion as well as 20-time Memorial Tournament participant Larry Nelson is this year’s honoree.
"It is very exciting to see what is arguably our strongest field ever competing next week at Muirfield Village Golf Club," said Jack Nicklaus, the Tournament Founder and Host.
“With the golf course in superb condition,” he said, “it should be a terrific week of competition and I look forward to eventually shaking the winner's hand."
However, notably absent this year will be the 2018 Memorial champ, Bryson DeChambeau, as well as 24-time PGA Tour winner Dustin Johnson, five-time Major winner and this year’s PGA Championship victor Brooks Koepka, and the world’s No. 9 player, Cameron Smith. Also not teeing it up is a guy who’s tied for eighth all-time with 45 PGA Tour wins, Phil Mickelson, who had participated in 20 Memorial tournaments between 1991 and 2020.
None of them were invited due to their involvement with the LIV Golf Tour.
The official pairings have yet to be announced but the first group will tee off at 7 a.m. on Thursday. For a complete list of this year’s participants, click here.
