Jackets Out Shot By Rangers
The Columbus Blue Jackets were defeated by the New York Rangers Saturday night while at home in Nationwide Arena. The loss moves Columbus to (7-5-0) and New York to (8-3-3) on the season
Both teams seemed evenly matched to start the game. Columbus looked hopeful, as New York’s K’Andre Miller was caught hooking only 1:14 into regulation but was unable to capitalize on the early power play. Sammy Blais gave Columbus another power play at 8:09 for cross checking. The Jackets were able to turn that penalty into a score at 8:59 with Jakub Voracek finding the back of the net for the first time this season with an assist from Oliver Bjorkstrand. The Rangers answered at 17:29 with a goal of their own from Artemi Panarin, his 3rd of the season.
The second period opened with a tie game, but that soon changed at 6:58 when the Jackets’ Eric Robinson scored for his second goal of the season, he was assisted by Bean and Werenski. Less than a minute later, the Rangers countered with a score from Chris Kreider at 7:39. Panarin found the net once again at 8:15 and Jacob Trouba scored his first of the season at 8:42. Despite all the offense from New York and two penalties of their own at 11:47 on Chinakhov for tripping and at 19:25 on Boone Jenner for interference, Columbus was able to keep the game from getting out of hand, ending the second period down 2-4.
The third period started off quickly with a Rangers power play goal at :52 from Kreider. The New York Rangers were now up 5-2. At 1:57 Kevin Rooney committed a holding penalty on Robinson giving the CBJ another power play, but they were unsuccessful converting that into points. Alexandre Texier found the net at 13:15 for the Jackets, colliding with the New York goalie while two fights broke out. Alexandar Georgiev came in to replace Shesterkin for the Rangers after the goal. The game finished with Columbus playing an empty net, trying to catch up to the dominant Rangers. The game closed out at 5-3 in favor of New York.
