Jackets Fall to Chicago and to Under .500 Again
The Columbus Blue Jackets were defeated by the Chicago Blackhawks 4-2 at home in Nationwide Arena Tuesday night. The loss drops the Jackets below .500 (16-17-1) and moves Chicago to (13-18-5).
The Jackets were on the scoreboard first, with Boone Jenner scoring at 12:51 with assists coming from Nyquist and Werenski. Chicago quickly answered with a score from Alex DeBrincat a few seconds later at 13:15. Patrik Laine capped the period off with a High-sticking penalty at 19:05.
The early second period had the Jackets hopeful, with the Blackhawks a man down. Debrincat and Kirby Dach both committed Hooking penalties at 5:03 and 9:29 respectively. Although Columbus had chances, they couldn't find a score. Then, at 15:10 Calvin de Haan found the goal for his first goal of the season.
The Blackhawks continued their offensive into the third period, starting with Connor Murphy scoring at 6:36. To add insult to injury, the Blue Jackets garnered all the penalties in the third. Max Domi was caught tripping at 10:56 and Emil Bemstrom was sent away for Cross Checking at 17:02. Not out of the fight yet, Gus Nyquist scored unassisted at 18:39 in an attempt at a comeback. Unfortunately for Columbus, DeBrincat finished off the night with another goal and his twenty third of the season at 19:45.
