Crosby Downs Jackets with Hat Trick
The Columbus Blue Jackets were defeated by the Pittsburgh Penguins 5-2 at home on friday night in Nationwide Arena. The loss moves the Jackets to (18-19-1) and the Penguins to (25-10-5).
The first period started off fast, with Brian Dumoulin scoring 32 seconds into regulation, putting Pittsburgh on the scoreboard first. 10 minutes in, and Eric Robinson garners himself and Columbus a penalty for tripping. Luckily for the Jackets, Gustav Nyquist scores unassisted at 10:40 to even things up. Then at 18:46 Boone Jenner scores to put the Jackets up 2-1. Sidney Crosby answered at 19:31 for his first score of the night, closing out the first period in a tie game.
The second period started off with a tripping penalty against Sidney Crosby at 2:43, and also against Gus Nyquist at 6:57. Though both teams had time on a Power Play, neither were able to score throughout the second period.
The eventful third period started with a holding penalty against Jake Bean of the Jackets at 1:24. Then at 5:35 Mike Matheson breaks the tie for the Penguins. At 8:36 Crosby was caught cross checking. At 13:32 Crosby finds the goal again while the Jackets are on a power play. Despite their best efforts, and a few more penalties, Columbus is unable to claw back into the game. Crosby finishes off the game with a Hat Trick at 18:02 leaving the night 5-2.
