Digging Deep on Legends
The Hall is broken down in several sections. A main traveling/changing exhibit plus their core areas
Ahmet Ertegun Main Exhibit Hall (Level 0)
With its current guest exhibit, The Beatles: Get Back to Let It Be, it also houses many artifacts and exhibits chronicling the history, the impact and the changes in rock and roll.
Not most people realize, the main reason the hall came to Cleveland was the term was born there. DJ Alan Freed coined the phrase for the music in the early 1950’s combining blues, soul, jazz and country.
Open since 1995, it has indeed become an icon of music and history.
The Main Entrance (Level 1) features a small cafe, the RnRHOF Gift Shop and other guest services. Restrooms are featured on every other floor including the main entrance.
The Garage (Level 2)
This is the most hands-on level with actual instruments to be played by guests, some artifacts including pinball machines based on artists and bands, and a live stage where occasionally local and national bands play.
The Hall of Fame/Connor Theater (Level 3)
With displays on previous recent years inductees, a honor wall with signatures of each inductee, and the Connor Theater featuring past performances; it is well worth soaking in the vibes of an American birthed form of music. Rock and Roll had its roots around the world. But it was born right here in Ohio.
The Wall/Pink Floyd (Level 4)
A literal recreation of “The Wall” featured at the concert in Berlin in 1990. This piece was installed the first year of the Hall.
Many artists played this celebration of the Berlin Wall falling. Roger Waters inspired the text along the Wall.
The Legends of Rock (Level 5-6)
As many have been inducted, their legacy carries on. Featured inductees have intensive exhibits and many of their instruments, On Level 6, some of the great guitarists have in depth interviews played along with their choice of rock tools.
This could be a whole day event for all who visit.
And we are far from done. Natural beauty, foodie paradises and much more await for your Cleveland adventures. Stay tuned, Rocking Explorers.
